5 games to look forward to this weekend

110

After the midweek Champions League action, the domestic leagues take centre stage this weekend.

Here are the five best games to keep an eye out for over the next couple of days:-

ATLETICO MADRID vs REAL MADRID (Sunday)

diego costa pepe

This is undoubtedly one of the biggest clashes between the two sides in many years, with both teams battling with Barcelona for the La Liga title.

Real are the ones with all the momentum, and currently lead their two rivals by three points at the top. Atletico, on the flip side, have just started to falter in recent weeks.

The duel between Diego Costa and the Real defensive pairing of Sergio Ramos and Pepe is always hugely entertaining, and will be one of the highlights of what should be a classic contest at Vicente Calderon.

PREDICTION: Atletico Madrid 1-2 Real Madrid

ROMA vs INTER MILAN (Saturday)

Inter-Roma coppa Italia

Roma continue to keep the pressure on Juventus at the top of Serie A, but need to keep on winning to stay in touch. This clash with Inter may not have the meaning it used to, but it still has the potential to be an explosive contest.

The Giallorossi have conceded just 11 goals in 24 league appearances, losing just once, and Rudi Garcia has done a fantastic job in charge.

Inter Milan are fifth at the moment, and have recovered after a very poor start to their season. They are hugely unpredictable but on their day will cause any side in the division trouble.

PREDICTION: Roma 2-0 Inter Milan

SOUTHAMPTON vs LIVERPOOL (Saturday)

southampton liverpool

Two of the Premier League’s most aesthetically-pleasing sides do battle on Saturday, in what should be a very entertaining encounter.

The Saints won 1-0 at Anfield earlier in the season, and although their season has tailed off slightly, with in-form Adam Lallana and Jay Rodriguez in their ranks they will be a threat to any side.

Liverpool still have an outside chance of winning their first Premier League title since 1990, and are playing some superb attacking football. Defensively, however, they are weak, and this could well prove to be their downfall again at St Mary’s.

PREDICTION: Southampton 2-2 Liverpool

BAYERN MUNICH vs SCHALKE (Saturday)

bayern

Bayern are simply unstoppable at the moment, while Schalke have just been destroyed 6-1 at home to Real Madrid in the Champions League. It may not be an even contest, but it’s worth watching for the potential footballing exhibition on the cards from the current champions of Europe.

Pep Guardiola’s side are unbeaten in an incredible 46 Bundesliga games, and show no sign of letting up just yet. They have world-class talent from back to front, and their squad depth is frightening.

Schalke couldn’t have picked a worse game to have next, but football can be a funny game. With Klaas-Jan Huntelaar and Julian Draxler at their disposal they will always have an attacking threat. It will be a long afternoon for them on Saturday, however.

PREDICTION: Bayern Munich 5-0 Schalke

MANCHESTER CITY vs SUNDERLAND- Capital One Cup Final (Sunday)

man city

The first piece of silverware in English football this season is up for grabs on Sunday, as Manchester City and Sunderland contest the Capital One Cup final at Wembley.

The odds are stacked against Gus Poyet’s side, but their semi-final victory over Manchester United will have given them huge confidence. In a final, anything can happen.

City will be eyeing a domestic treble this season, and it’s hard to see them not winning their first trophy of the three this weekend. They have so much attacking talent coming from all angles Sunderland will struggle hugely to stop them, and Manuel Pellegrini’s side will prevail with relative ease.

PREDICTION: Manchester City 3-1 Sunderland
